Worlds away

Lamplight Design are husband and wife team; James and Samantha Brighouse. Lamplight is based out of our home in the leafy green town of Uttoxeter, England. We share a passion for nostalgia and aim to bring this to life within our work. Modern life is cluttered with commercial produce, we adore homespun artefacts with true unique style and perfect imperfections. We view Lamplight as our opportunity to marry the romance of an era long gone with the effort and passion of modern craftsmanship.

"Lifestyle merchandising is our passion. It is our aim to inspire the human spirit by creating homeware to compliment a casual, classic way of living. Lamplight General Store offers unique lifestyle environment furnishings each with their own sense of emotional appeal.”

Additional policies and FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions:

Why battery lights? Our lights can be used almost anywhere. They can be wall mounted and even used outdoors on a summer’s evening. Using battery powered lights removes the need for trailing power cables.

How long do the batteries last? Our lights are specifically design to emit rich ambient glow whilst consuming low power. Typically, high quality (name brand) batteries last a HUGE 30-50 hours!

Do the bulb covers get hot? No. The lights used are single, bright LEDs and do not get hot.

Can the signs be used outside? Our signs are designed for indoor use as they are not water resistant, however, provided they are not left out in the rain they can be used outdoors.

Are the signs made of metal? Unless otherwise stated, the majority of our signs are made using both metal and wood. The face of the sign is made using wood and the edging is made using 0.9mm – 1.2mm galvanised steel.

How do we wall mount the signs? In our house, we hang our signs using sturdy wall screws (two per items). However, if you like, we can supply a small set of fixings (two ‘saw tooth’ picture frame style hangers and self tapping screws). We don’t install these ourselves because we’re never sure of the preferred orientation.

Is the finish created using real rust? Yes. Our rusted finish is made up of both real iron rust as well as hand painted rust effect. Items made using a heavily rusted finish (such as the Badlands Arrow) are treated to a light clear coat lacquer to protect both the item itself and any furnished surroundings.

Are the edges sharp? The edging is 1.2mm galvanised steel. After having been cut to length we do neatly round off all corners, we also run a sander across the long edges. This process removes all burrs and leaves a smooth flat edge that is safe to handle.

Do the items look factory produced? Each of our items is lovingly handmade (including all cutting/drilling/assembly work - we do not use laser cut or CNC router cut templates or stock). This being the case, there are tolerances involved and as such the finished items will have a handmade appearance. Thankfully, we're not robots. We do however take care to ensure that all processes are completed to the best of our ability and that all construction is done as 'neatly' as possible and in line with the intended design of the item itself.

Why is their a delivery time involved? All of our items are carefully made to order.
