Paper Art, Digital Collage, Dolls, and Painting - A Mixed Media Story
I like to think of myself as a modern day Leonardo da Vinci because I share a passion across a varied number of interests some of which could arguably be placed in the category of mixed media art. The question became how does one go about opening a shop that reflects a cohesive style across such a variety of artistic interests? That concept could be summed up in one word - imaginarium.
Those who follow their hearts and their passions, who go after what they want no matter what others think or say live a charmed life and so the idea for the Le Charmed Life imaginarium was born. It is a place for me to express myself through some of the wonderfully diverse forms mixed media art can take.
PAPER COUTURE
From paper dresses to paper shoes to paper mâché corsets and beyond, dimensional paper art is on of my first loves and holds a special fascination for me. I love the challenge of finding ways to start with a flat piece of paper and turn it into a dimensionally interactive experience. Like all artists, I take inspiration from other artists however, all pieces I offer are my own, original creations.
DIGITAL COLLAGE
I am drawn to grungy, textured papers, vintage ephemera and beautiful typography. It's fun and immensely satisfying to digitally combine old images to create something original and new. I create digital art based on what speaks to me and not what I think someone else will buy although that is a nice side benefit. It's a compliment to know that others are touched by my work and that they will get as much enjoyment from incorporating it into their art as I did in creating it.
DOLLS
I can honestly say I've never outgrown my love for dolls. Cloth dolls such as the Tilda style dolls have become my latest obsession probably because of all the deliciously bright, cheerfully uplifting colors and patterns I see them dressed in. I think the human form has held a fascination for us as a species. Since the dawn of man, the doll has been with us in some form in every culture across time.
PAINTING
Painting is another of my early passions that pops up and peaks my interest from time to time. Right now it is another extension of dolls on a two dimensional surface. On the page I enjoy the challenge of using my acrylics to paint a beautiful doll face so that she sparkles with whimsical personality and aliveness. The perfect part is that I can still dress them in fabrics or papers using acrylic mediums. Anything is possible in the magical world of paint and mixed media art.
IT ALL WORKS
Anyone who ever said you have to pick and commit to just one thing or you'll appear unfocused is obviously someone content to travel the drone worker path for life. That's not me and so I've chose an imaginarium full of interests to keep me thoroughly happy for a lifetime. Welcome! I'm so glad you found me. :)
