I’m an official Fiber Provider for the Livestock Conservancy’s Shave ‘Em to Save ‘Em initiative. See livestockconservancy.org for more info. In addition to raising my own sheep,I source wool from local shepherds who raise heritage breed sheep as part of diverse, sustainable, and biodynamic farms. Animal welfare is of primary importance to me, and I make sure the sheep are well cared for.
Pure Colorado wool from small, much-loved flocks
Proud to support Hibulb Cultural Center, Tulalip. Navajo Water Project, Diné . Southern Arapaho tribe, and Sisters United.
Left Hand Wool offers Colorado grown and processed yarn and spinning fiber from our own sheep and llamas, and some of their friends who live nearby.
Roving and yarn are made at local fiber mills, using careful, water-conscious methods and citrus-based soap. Currently we work with The Good Shepherd Fiber Mill in Parker, CO for processing. Batts are carded here on the farm. All dyeing is done here, using either natural plant dyes or acid dyes that meet the criteria for organic certification.
I'm a spinner, knitter, and weaver, and I try out all the fibers first myself, so I can accurately describe them. Everything I sell is something I would like to spin or knit with myself, and all products are unconditionally guaranteed.

5 out of 5 starsJust got my Clun Forest yarn today. It's beautiful! I plan on dyeing half of it red, and knitting up a pair of Norwegian stranded heart slippers for Valentine's Day (and my second SE2SE project.) Cannot wait to start!

What's in a Name?
If you want to know where your yarn and spinning fiber come from, you're in the right place. Everything I sell comes from and is processed in a 100 mile radius of Niwot, Colorado. All the fiber animals live here on our farm or on small family farms where they are well-cared for, with environmentally-conscious farming methods. That means treating the animals, land, air, and water with care. If you have any specific questions, please ask!
Why Left Hand Wool? Several reasons: We live near Left Hand Creek in Colorado, which was named for the Southern Arapaho leader Chief Niwot (an anglicized spelling of his name) which means Left Hand. A good book about the area and the Arapaho people is "Chief Left Hand", by Margaret Coel.
