The Making of a Maker
I have always known that my God-given talent is art-related. I just hadn't figured out "my thing" yet. 32 years later, I feel like I've truly, finally figured it out. To know what "my thing" is, well it's indescribable and so energizing! Here's a bit about my personal journey:
Last spring (2015), I was struggling with postpartum depression. I felt like a milk cow to be honest. haha! I love love LOVE my sweet daughter--more than words can say--but those first few months are so overwhelming. I quit working to stay home with her--and my daily life had changed from focusing on achievement, to focusing on keeping a tiny human alive. It really is a huge adjustment! (ALSO a HUGE blessing of course) After months of struggling to adjust, a friend asked me if I wanted to participate in an art show. I decided to go for it. I wasn't sure what art I would do, but I knew it would be good for me! Haha! Eventually I decided to make some signs for around the house and try to sell them. That way, if they didn't sell, I didn't care because I wanted to keep them anyway! I ended up selling them ALL and getting 20 more orders! I also had several asking for a website or Facebook page.
Meanwhile I had started intentionally focusing on my spiritual health and making it a point to connect with God at least 4 days a week. After that, the ideas came FLOWING. I truly believe CREATIVITY IS A NATURAL RESULT OF SPIRITUALITY. I could not sleep at night because of the overflow of ideas that kept coming my way. Now I keep a notebook by my bed to help me attend to them at more appropriate hours of the day :D
