Sewing has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom sews and she taught me at quite a young age. Eventually, recognizing that this was not a fleeting interest for me, she got me my own machine (which I still use!) As I got older, and became more skilled, I started sewing some of my own clothes and bags, and I have kept at it ever since.
My interest in sewing and design competed with my love for art and studio work when I was planning for college, and I had a hard time deciding which route to take. I actually began my first semester in a fashion design program. However, the art world drew me back in and I had transferred into studio art by second semester, which saw me through the four years to graduation.
Fast forward several years, and my fella and I have moved an over ten hour drive from my hometown (in the rural northern Adirondacks) to the beautiful, and even more remote, rocky coast of far eastern Maine. We are creating a wonderful life in an 1890's farmhouse by the ocean; tending to chickens, gardens, and old tractors; wrangling two dogs, a few jobs, and more work around the house than we have time for!
For several years I was working on my own jewelry business, as well as taking on commissioned graphite portraits, and creating my own personal artwork. Whenever I needed a change of pace in the studio, I would switch my focus and spend some time at the sewing machine.
Eventually I noticed that I was spending more and more time sewing, and I developed an idea. It happened rather organically, starting from a small seed of a notion that I couldn't shake, combined with a growing love for all things linen, and has developed into the start of a new venture for me here on Leighton Point Road.
