About Me
My name is Leslie Anne Hansley and I was born in Kingston, Jamaican. I now reside in Maryland, USA. In my previous lives I was a computer programmer, business owner, and an accountant.
Now that I am retired, I decided to fulfill a long-time wish. I have always been fascinated by African Masks. My husband had traveled to Africa many times and always returned home with paintings and carvings from Africa. I wanted to make the masks more colorful by painting the masks with bright Caribbean colors but thought it could be disrespectful to my ancestors.
So in early 2018, I decided to paint images of them on canvas but add my own twist. I have no formal artistic training and I have never painted before except at Sip and Paint Wine events where I did more sipping than painting. I love bold, bright colors, interior decorating, gardening, chess, volunteering in my community, entertaining and now painting.
I like that my art does not require precision and symmetry and is therefore a refection of my personality. At this stage in my life, I hate being conventional. My art gives me a feeling of warmth and joy that I hope you will share with me.
