Meaningful art for those who want to make a difference in this world.
I started painting back in 2011 as a way to give more time and space to the creative side of my life. Sometimes I feel as though I lead a double life, trying to find balance between my full time job at an international humanitarian organization and my artistic pursuits. I make watercolor art prints inspired by nature, faith, and a desire for the world to be a better place for those who are marginalized and suffering in this world. Sounds like a big contradiction, right? Trying to make beautiful art but reflecting on the not-so-beautiful realities of this world? Believe, I’m trying to figure out how to do this, one step at a time. All I know is painting has given me space for creative expression and helps me process (but not forget!) the hard parts of this world.
So much of my painting is inspired by a desire to see this world become better for those who are the most marginalized in the world, the ones who experience injustice at the hands of broken systems. I want to create beautiful art to inspire people toward compassionate acts of justice. Sounds lofty doesn't it? I'm still finding my voice, my style, the issues I want to focus on, and the balance between beautiful art and the hard realities of this world. Painting is my way of working that out.
