Following in Love with Collage Art Quilts
In 2018, I took a collage art quilt class at a local Texas quilt shop and fell in love! I've been piecing quilts for over 30 years, but there was just something about collage quilts that spoke to me.
After making my first collage quilt, I couldn't find any patterns that I truly wanted to make. Certainly, not a collage quilt I would hang on my walls. My husband encouraged me to create my own patterns.
After creating a pattern, I make a prototype quilt. A few of the quilts I have made multiple times. The gumball quilt has Halloween, Christmas and ABC versions. The wings quilt has a baby version and a colorful angel wing version (this quilt is also on the cover of a book I wrote called "A Joyful Embrace: A Memoir). I love hanging my art quilts on my walls and changing them for the seasons.
One of my favorites is the Eat Cake quilt with the saying across the cake "Life is Short, Eat the Cake." After my disabled adult daughter and husband passed away within 15 months of each other, it has become my new motto in life.
Now I teach locally at quilt shops, quilt guilds and in my home in Texas. It is so enjoyable to share a new way to use fabric. It is a great way to use all that Kaffe fabric I've been collecting for so many years!
