Hi! I’m Monica, the artist behind Lil Bits of Mona! Welcome to my lil shop! Here's a lil behind-the-scenes of how I got here.
I've always had an appreciation for all types of art. From taking classes in high school and college to spending countless hours crafting with my daughter. During her elementary years, I made a handmade ornament for every student in her class (think along the lines of perler beads or painting over a hundred little cubes red and green...)
Enter teaching Kindergarten and 1st Grade for over a decade. I incorporated art into literacy studies as much as possible. We used to be able to craft as long as it supported the curriculum (which I see has diminished over the years due to teaching strict programs). One of my favorite projects was the shoe box book reports the students made for Open House. I love seeing the creativity flow from little children!
All the while, I was attending as many craft shows and arts festivals as I could. I just love seeing what others can create and have always appreciated the individual talents each of us possess.
I found Etsy when I was getting married and looking for personalized napkins, coozies, and bridal gifts. I then started looking to Etsy for holiday decor for our new house. I tried my hand at string art and one project led to another...so I opened my shop in late 2017 and here I am!
Then I got the ultimate compliment by receiving an Honorable Mention ribbon for a hand-painted and string art piece I entered for the State Fair of Texas Creative Arts Competition! My work (along with thousands of others) was on display during the entire month during the fair!
One bucket list item that I crossed off my list was being a vender at a community craft show in November 2017! I kept calling it "my show!" It was a great experience, and I look forward to doing more shows in the future.
The bonus in all of this is that my Hubby has become fond of Etsy and has surprised me with some very special and unique gifts for our anniversary from other Etsy sellers.
My advice? I would just get started - everything else will fall into place!
