Sketching out a Commissioned Piece: “Soul Sisters”
Ahh my story? Well here it goes...
Nearly two decades ago I studied art in college; art and communication studies. The plan was to get into marketing but that soon failed when I realized I wanted to help people in a different way, more personally, than such a career would provide. After graduating I set the paintbrush aside for other pursuits: a career in helping and teaching, a family... adventure... but as I wove my story I always remained crafty and creating. Little did I know, I was refining my skills for what was to come...
In 2018 I took a life-changing trip to Alaska that literally opened up a creative floodgate that has not stopped. Absolute immersion in nature, connecting so wholly with such pure places, had an affect on me that awakened my soul in a way I've never experienced.
At first I started painting trees and some landscapes. But the pull to "make sense of the world" through art and expression nagged at me. That's when "she" showed up on the scene; the figure I often paint, always from the back. In difficult times, I would turn to my artistic self and allow what my heart and hands create to tell my story, sort out my emotions, put things in order, or take them apart.
Through this, I learned that art is always, ALWAYS whatever it needs to be in the moment we find ourselves present enough to pay attention to it.
Amid the pandemic I realized that sharing my pieces connected with others - oftentimes people would say "this piece speaks to me..." and I truly love that because I know that purity and sense of wonder that I tap into in order to create a piece is resonating with the purity and sense of wonder in another beautiful soul. That's pretty darn amazing.
I continue to paint, create, try new things, appreciate and thank nature and every higher being there is out there for this gift of life and art that I've been given. I continue to tell my "story" through paint and brush so to connect with others on a level that reminds us of the human experience we all get to share.
Thanks for checking out my work and reading my story. I hope you enjoy the journey!
Peace,
A.C. Newman

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders
I do accept requests for customized and/or personalized orders. Please contact me directly to discuss what you've got in mind.
The cost of custom paintings start at $200 (includes labor and supplies); the cost increases with the size and scope of your request. I am quite reasonable with this, however, as I see you as an important "partner" in the process and am passionate about sharing my art and vision!
I've done many custom pieces inspired by original paintings, so if you see something you love, but would love it even more with a couple tweaks, ASK! I'm happy to work with you to create a piece that is all you... or whoever you gift it to!
Please allow one month for the production of these items, then an additional week to ship.
Sizing details
Sizing details and orientation vary by each piece. I do my best to create a detailed description with all my work, but if you have a question please ask.
For prints, I can accommodate size changes through cropping and adjustment, so if you've got a print size in mind, let's talk! If I can accommodate it, I certainly will for a comparable price for similar sizes!
Keep in mind the dimensions of each piece. If a painting is square, to retain the entire piece, dimensions of any prints should remain proportional to the original (meaning: it may cut off some of the painting if we make a square piece rectangular, circular, change orientation, and so on).
Care instructions
First, thank you for reading this part! It shows you have an appreciation for original artwork and I'm grateful for your interest in preserving and keeping it nice.
Care for Original Pieces:
All of my original pieces are on canvas, unless otherwise stated (some of my pieces are on wood panels). I do not add a protective layer to my pieces unless you request such. If requested, I provide this at no charge. I use a water-based clear, no-gloss finish.
Care for Prints:
Once shipped, you should frame or cover your print immediately (this is true for Giclee and Matte paper) to reduce any damage or stains. Giclee is a high quality, 100% cotton product that lasts a very, very long time. It has a watercolor paper feel.
Gift wrapping and packaging
Ensuring your package arrives safe and completely intact is my top priority!! I do add additional wrapping to each piece as a means of saying THANK YOU and to show my pride in each piece... though please know that each beautifully wrapped piece is securely packaged under all that pretty stuff!
If you would like custom wrapping for a gift, a personalized note, or something else specific, I am happy to oblige. Please contact me directly to discuss.
Wholesale availability
I own the rights to all of my work and manage all production and distribution of reproductions of my pieces. Therefore I am happy to consider wholesale purchases of my items for a percentage discount. I am especially open to this option for gift shops and small businesses interested in carrying unique items such as my pieces, prints and greeting cards.
Please contact me with this request and we can discuss further.
Many thanks!
Hanging Instructions for Original Pieces
In order to preserve the quality of my original paintings, I do not add hanging hardware to the pieces, but will include it in my shipping free of charge, if requested.
Typically two i-hooks and a sturdy wire (purchased at any hardware or craft store) will be strong enough to hang an original piece that is 30x40 inches or smaller.
Where do I get my inspiration from?
You! Me! Nature! Life!
Every day I "see" paintings and pieces in my mind. Every breath is an opportunity to share the emotions and sheer gratitude I have for our world, our interconnectedness and relationship with nature.
There is so much to celebrate - I am grateful to have an infinite supply of canvases and inspiration.
Each piece is a beautiful story, a feeling, a hope or a heartache. Each is 100% genuine and comes straight from my soul. Each one helps me make sense of this world and feel more grounded in my own existence.
Thank you for looking! Enjoy the journey.
