Swiftie since "Teardrops On My Guitar"
"And that was 'Teardrops On My Guitar' by a new young artist named Taylor Swift," the radio announcer said.
It was early in the morning of my senior year in high school, when I heard one of Taylor's first big hits and immediately fell in love with it. I sat in the parking lot of my school before my first class and made a mental note to look her up when I got home that day. To my surprise, she was only about four months younger than I was and seemed to be singing about all of the things that I was thinking and feeling as a hormonal teenager.
Somehow, through the years, Taylor has continued to write musical and lyrical masterpieces that often seem to have come from my own head. As I went through my wild college years, her song's beats matched my confusingly rowdy tempo. Once I became a mom and longed for peaceful rhythms, Swift obligingly released slower and more melancholy albums. There is not a song she has released that does not bring back memories, whether fond or sore. But each one was playing in the background of the scenes of my life at just the right time. Although I am sure we will never meet, I will always feel a bond with Taylor and her music because, even though she does not realize it and our lives could not be more different, they have also synced in so many ways.
I think that's why we're still singing along.
