Announcement   I design modern and classic jewelry made with precious metals, precious and semiprecious gemstones, African trade beads and more. I create them to last for as long as you love them, and then some. That means no open jump rings or half loops that can break easily if yanked, and high quality, stabilized stones. Modern heirlooms, I like to call them, for the woman who is not afraid to stand out in all the right ways.

When I go to design a piece of jewelry, I always imagine the woman who will wear it. Modern, classic, chic...with just a touch of bohemian. She would never be caught dead wearing the same thing as anyone else at the party. She can buy herself whatever she wants, but she doesn't necessarily flash big designer names...too unoriginal! She loves discovering that little shop with a great new designer. She goes to Santa Fe for the Opera, and St. Thomas for some beach, but she also drops of the kids at school most mornings...and don't you think for a second that she doesn't look great then also!

For me, handmade means artist designed, it means made with materials that will not tarnish or lose their luster or fall apart. You can get that at any department store. I want to create a unique and beautiful piece that you can be proud to wear, a piece that showcases the amazing woman that you are. Other than the occasional bit of chain or a clasp, my pieces are 100% handmade, with soldered jump rings, and triple looped wraps and then tumbled for a long time to work harden the metals for strength.

About

Jewelry is more than an accessory...it is an expression of who you are.

When I was 7 years old, we lived in Granada, Spain in an old house that had wonderful Moroccan architecture and had one of the tunnels that had originally been used to sneak provisions into the Alhambra during the siege. The owner of the home was a famous jewelry designer in Spain, and I used to sit quietly for hours watching her create. She would let me play with little scraps and make things of my own.

Now 30 years later, my kids are all in school, and this stay at home mom finally has time to focus on doing something that I have loved all these years as more than a hobby. I completed my metalsmithing training at the Denver School of Metal Arts with Darlene Armstrong, and Travis Ogden. If that name sounds familiar, it is because he is one of the best metals instructors in the country, and most of the manuals you see are written by him. There is something so rewarding about taking a raw slab of stone and cutting and polishing into something beautiful and then creating a setting to accent it's beauty.

For me jewelry starts with a stone that catches my attention and I want to know what it will become. Although I rarely sketch ahead of time, I do carry a little pad with me on hikes and walks in our beautiful mountains. I will often stop and sketch a flower or the way a branch bends or a group of rocks. For me, jewelry tells a story of the elements, and of nature, it is literally, a wearable piece of art. Welcome to the Little Red Barn. Step inside and let me make you something beautiful.
