Left the city, started a farm, milked some goats and learned how to make soap.
One night at dinner, while we were still just dating, James started asking Eileen very detailed questions about her aspirations in life. It caught Eileen off-guard, and maybe she even cried a little at James' intense life questions. Little did she know that he was planning to propose and he wanted to make sure that the idea of quitting her job and moving out of their Brooklyn apartment to start a goat dairy in the country wasn't completely appalling.
That brief conversation sparked a life-changing adventure and two years later we were married and moving to a farm in rural Tennessee. That was back in 2011 and the story has continued ever since. The goat dairy has grown from one to over 30 goats. The goats are one of only a handful 100% grassfed herds in the country. We specialize in organic soap and skincare production using goat's milk from our dairy herd, the highest quality organic oils available, and herbs from our herb garden.
Soapmaking started on a whim when Eileen's grandmother came down for vacation and coaxed her into making a batch of goat's milk soap. Her grandmother had heard that goat's milk made a wonderfully soothing and moisturizing soap. After that first batch, family and friends were hooked and constantly requesting more. When James lost his day job we decided to begin producing soap and other skincare products in earnest. We've never looked back.
In addition to soap, the two make organic, raw milk cheeses and raising laying hens and heritage breed Ossabaw Island Hogs on their farm. Visit www.littleseedfarm.com to find out more!
