Why is it needed?
1 in 6 people in East Tennessee Appalachia live in poverty and have difficulty meeting basic needs. All real people. All struggling to get enough to eat. From the working poor to senior citizens, there is an astounding 200,000 people at-risk of hunger. 1 in 5 of the most vulnerable children in our community, children who may be missing meals on a regular basis, are provided healthy, easily-prepared food. Through amazing programs such as Food Rescue, Rural Route, Food for Kids, and Mobile Pantry, we are making sure that hunger is a decreasing problem!
Who are they?
Part of "Feeding America", Second Harvest Food Bank is the East Tennessee regions largest hunger-relief charity. They secure and distributes over 16 million pounds of food annually through a network of over 500 partnering non-profit organizations such as food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters and schools. They cannot do this alone. It takes all of us joining together to do one small thing at a time.
Life is all about giving and loving, and with your help, we are filling hungry tummies and sharing love, one item at a time! Since 2014, we've donated over 200,000 meals, and thats all because of people like you, LIVING out LOVE in a tangible way! Together, we are truly making a difference in the lives of others.
