Announcement   Heirloom quality fantasy-based artisan jewelry with a practical side. Metalwork, mixed metals, Steampunk, Victorian, dragons, insects & more. Formerly LooLoo's Box.

LooLoo's Box is now FANTASTICALITY! Over time, my design style changed and grew as I learned and honed new skills. When I sat down to set my 2015 goals I realized that LooLoo's Box had become a poor fit, as it really didn't tell a story that relates to my product, style, or vision. It was time to reinvent my brand.

'Fantasticality' describes my style: fantastic jewelry designed with practicality in mind. My designs not only look great, but they are comfortable to wear and made to last for generations. The logo - a stylized cursive F dragon - reflects the playful fantasy of my work, although the dragon is only one of many themes I utilize in my designs.

If you want to read more about the hows and whys of my rebranding project, check out my blog post: sharp as a tack or dumb as a doorknob?

About

Evolution with 'Catitude'

My story is pretty common: I began selling my jewelry because I found myself making far more than I needed for gifts. Like any good junkie, I started selling to support my habit, and then the addiction consumed my life. The difference is that this is a healthy, joyous addiction that brings only good things into my life, and has helped set me free to be the best, most self-realized Robin I can be! So no I don't want the cure, thank you. ;-)

In January 2015 I realized that it was not only necessary to change my business name from LooLoo's Box (for reasons I blogged about at http://fantasticality.com/living-the-life-fantastic/14119869) and I am now living in a state of Fantasticality. However, I left the story of LooLoo below, in case you like reading funny cat stories.

Thank you for gracing my shop with your presence, and I hope you find something you never knew you couldn't live without!

As for the name LooLoo's Box? Now THERE'S a STORY!

LooLoo was my childhood cat. A very fat white aesthetically-challenged cat. An ugly neutered MALE cat. His name was actually Casper, but we all called him LooLoo. The name was descriptive, you see... "he's a looloo", as in "he's one strange cat". He wasn't pretty but he had a fabulously funny personality, including a fetish for all things sparkly. Especially jewelry. He was quite an accomplished cat burglar. He would have loved what I’m up to these days and would be stealing wire scraps and shiny bits. And earrings. He is missed.

LooLoo used to stash his treasures behind the family room sofa until a shoe box was left lying at the end of the couch and he promptly began putting his treasures in it. He was then given an attractive wood wine box with a pillow in it which served him well until the end of his days. Yes, he curled up with his treasures, purred over them, slept amongst them. He was LooLoo, and he was magnificent.

When jewelry went missing (once, even Mom's wedding ring!) we knew right where to look; in the family treasure chest - LooLoo's Box.

JEWELRY CARE, CLEANING & STORAGE
(The things we should - but mostly don't - do. Including me.)

CLEANING

Taking time to clean your jewelry keeps it looking its finest and increases your pride when wearing it. Many jewelry cleaning solutions, steam, and ultrasonic cleaners will cause irreparable damage to many gemstones. After cleaning, the stones may have lost their luster. Hot soapy water and a soft brush (makeup brush) can be used to clean gemstones. Dry the stones with a soft towel (cotton) not a paper towel or tissue. Rub stones with a soft cotton cloth to remove fingerprints and keep them shiny.

Soap and water will also keep your silver looking good. Chlorine, salt water, suntan lotion, hair spray, perfume, sweat (physical activities), dirt buildup (never taking jewelry off), chemically treated pools, whirlpools, exposure to air, and household cleaners that contain bleach will cause discoloration of silver. Dips will remove the oxidized antique finish in silver designs and may damage stones. Polish your silver pieces regularly with a gentle liquid paste to remove tarnish. A polishing cloth may be used.

The rules for silver also apply to gold or gold coated jewelry. Avoid rubbing abrasive cleaners or silver polishing cloths on the stones. To bring back sparkle to faceted stones, wash with warm water, mild detergent and a very soft toothbrush. Brush the inside and back of the setting. Rinse well. Soft gemstones as lapis, malachite, coral, turquoise should be cleaned carefully with mild soap. Avoid using cleaners as ammonia since they will remove sealers or coatings on the stones and cause irreparable damage. Try to wipe your jewelry pieces with a soft damp cotton cloth after wearing.

Swarovski crystal beads should be washed by hand in lukewarm water with a mild detergent. Rinse well, dry with a soft lint free cloth. Never use abrasive or corrosive cleaners or glass or window cleaning solutions since they cause streaking.

CARE

I do it too, but we really shouldn't wear jewelry to bed, to the gym, or swimming. Exercising, swimming, washing dishes or housework will expose your jewelry to grease, sweat and perspiration which contain minerals and chemicals that will dull the stones and the metal. Pool and sea water, hair spray, perfume, deodorant, household cleansers, cosmetics, tap and well water, and chlorine all contain chemicals that will damage your jewelry. Put your jewelry on after applying your makeup. Be sure to shower after going swimming to remove the chlorine from your skin before wearing your jewelry.

STORAGE

Proper jewelry storage is often overlooked. Never toss jewelry into a drawer or on top of a dresser where it can be easily scratched or stones fractured or chipped. Jewelry should be stored in a cool dry place. The box or pouch it came in is a perfect place to store. A zip lock bag will prevent tarnishing of metals and keep the metals and stones from being scratched. Prolonged exposure to air will cause silver to tarnish. Place a closed zip lock bag in a box to ensure stones do not scratch each other. Do not store jewelry in sunlight or heat. Soft pouches can be used to store jewelry and the pouches placed in a box to keep separated from other pieces of jewelry. When traveling, wrap pieces with padding to prevent scratches on metal or stones and chipping of the stones.

Pearls and opals are damaged by extreme dryness and abrasive cleaners or cloths. Pearls and opals should not be kept in a safety deposit box where they cannot get moisture from the air. Keep pearls separate from other jewelry to prevent scratching. Store pearls and opals in their own pouch or box out of contact with other jewelry.

Swarovski bead jewelry should be stored in individual pouches to prevent scratching.

~ Pearl Jewelry Daily Care ~

Pearls are organic gemstones that are vulnerable to acid, alkaline and extremes of humidity. To preserve your pearls' radiance, avoid letting them come into contact with cosmetics, hair spray, or perfume. Always put on your jewelry as a final touch, after applying make-up and styling hair.

The pearl's luster can also be harmed by perspiration. To prevent this, before returning your pearls to the jewelry box, wipe them gently with a soft cloth.

Storage

Pearls are exceptionally cohesive and shock-resistant, but may be scratched by contact with sharp objects or other gemstones. To prevent tangles and scratches, fasten clasps and pins, then lay each item out separately in a compartmentalized jewelry box. When carrying jewelry, use a protective jewelry pouch.

Leaving pearl jewelry in a security box for long periods may cause pearls to dehydrate, so enjoy them frequently. There is a saying that "pearls want to be worn," and it is true!

I love my work and want you to love it, too.
Additional policies and FAQs
I love custom orders! Need a special piece for an upcoming occasion? Convo me!

Need a necklace longer or shorter? Would you like a different clasp? Do you prefer different ear wires? In most cases this is 'no problem'! I am willing to make changes to existing pieces; however, they must be purchased and paid for first. Changes that involve significant time and/or materials may cost extra. I learned that lesson the hard way. :-)

If you have any questions about any of my items or policies please do not hesitate to contact me either by sending me an Etsy conversation or by email to RobinDelargy [at] hotmail.com.
