Frequently asked questions

Do you do custom orders?

Absolutely! I always enjoy making different designs. If you have an idea, please let me know.

What kinds of wood do you use?

Generally domestic hardwoods (maple, walnut, cherry, etc. I also like to add various exotic woods as accents. These add some colors like orange (padauk), purple (purpleheart), and maroon (bloodwood).

Are your designs unique?

Yes they are. I hand select every piece of lumber. With that, I try to produce pieces that highlight the character of the wood. Also mix and match wood types for some interesting outcomes. Every item is different, each having it's unique flavor.

Do you offer a warranty?

Yes, boards are warrantied for 60 days after purchase. This is against defects in workmanship such as cracking. If your board develops a crack within this time frame, please contact me for a refund or replacement. It is important, however, to keep your boards oiled and waxed and do not expose them the hard washing.

How do I clean my board?

Boards that are treated with mineral oil and beeswax must be maintained. The Board Butter provided with your order may be used. This will prevent water and other nasty microbes from seeping into the wood. Both treatments are food grade and safe for food contact.

After each use, wipe the board clean with a damp cloth. A very small amount of dilute dishwashing soap can be used on the cloth. Boards can also be disinfected by applying dilute white vinegar (1 part vinegar + 4 parts water).

Do not soak or scrub your board or put it in the dishwasher. This could damage the surface and cause the board to warp. It will also void the warranty. Once you’ve cleaned the board, wipe it dry and let it air dry while standing on edge.

How do I care for my board

Periodically, apply a cutting board conditioner. A container of “Board Butter” is included with your order. This is a custom mix of beeswax and mineral oil – what was used to treat your board initially. You can also use a commercial product such as Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner or Walrus Oil Wood Wax. Just make sure it’s food-grade or food-safe.

Wipe the board with your conditioner, let it sit for an hour or overnight then wipe off the excess. This will return the shine and hide most small knife marks and other scratches. Then store the board on edge to prevent warping. If treated properly, your board will last for years.

How do I care for trays, beer / bourbon flights and coasters?

Trays, beer/ bourbon flights and coasters are finished with a stain and sealed with polyurethane (these are also food safe). This makes them water resistant but not 100% waterproof. After using, they should be wiped clean but not soaked or washed. Any water that accumulates, such as sweat from a cold glass), should be wiped off as soon as possible.
