I was shopping around for budget apps and kept running into the same problem - they all wanted a monthly subscription, access to my bank accounts, and to store everything in the cloud. I just wanted something simple that didn't feel like I was handing over my entire financial life to some company.

I'm not a developer, but I had a clear idea of what I wanted: a budget tracker that you actually own, that keeps your data on your device, and doesn't nickel-and-dime you every month. So I worked with AI tools to build it.

Lucent started as something I made for myself. No logins, no data collection, no recurring charges. Just download it and it's yours.

The 8-bit game hidden inside? That came later when I realized budgeting doesn't have to be completely soul-crushing. Sometimes you need a two-minute break to collect pixelated gold coins.

I make things I wish already existed. If other people get value from them, even better.
