Reclaiming Resources - Empowering People - Preserving Beauty
A note on our long abscence: We tried Etsy a few years ago but found that affordable shipping was way too slow. The continued devaluation of our local currency alog with the entry of a new low cost but efficient delivery service between SA and the US has made it possible to try this again - now with free shipping and reasonable delivery ties of 7-14 days.
In 1996 the brothers Mark and Brian Fanner founded Luna Designs with the intention of creating sustainable employment in a labour intensive industry.
Since then their company has been manufacturing hand-made rustic picture frames from recycled wood. The frames are made with loving attention to detail in a contemporary French Industrial style, well suited to modern and shabby chic interiors.
Today Luna Designs is part owned by our German distributors and is a successful South African business with many happy customers around the world.
The working atmosphere at Luna Designs is based on respect and trust, free from any discrimination. Our management style is responsible and supportive.
Our staff are paid a fixed salary and receive all the benefits prescribed by South African labour law including paid leave, sick leave and other benefits.
The majority of our suppliers are homeless and unemployed people who collect waste wood in Cape Town and surrounding areas. Luna pays these suppliers directly instead of using middle men.
Luna Designs is committed to pursuing economic, social and ecological goals.
Through efficient recycling of waste wood and the sale of quality products made from the distressed timber that we gather we are not only able to contribute to the reduction of waste but are also able to offer many people hope for their future.
Everyone involved in the business from the suppliers to the employees receive a regular income allowing Luna Designs to directly contribute to social welfare and stability in our local area.
All frames produced by Luna Designs are handmade using various types of reclaimed timber. Therefore the measurements can vary slightly from frame to frame. Each frame is unique.
