En casi todas las culturas del mundo, los seres humanos han satisfecho la necesidad de expresarse a través de la narración de historias y la ornamentación. Las culturas antiguas utilizaban metales, piedras preciosas y textiles para expresar sus historias y transmitir sus leyendas. Es precisamente este espíritu el que motiva a la diseñadora de joyas mexicano-estadounidense Lindsey Alonzo.
El nombre, LUNASOL, combina los faros Luna (luna) y Sol (sol); un apodo que habla de la cultura y el espíritu de diseño que encarna el trabajo de Lindsey. Inspirándose en las texturas y los colores de las joyas de todo el mundo, diseña piezas que presentan un trabajo de metal detallado con una estética artesanal. Honrar las raíces de nuestro mundo global le permite extender la energía simbólica que adorna sus piezas hasta el día de hoy, así como conectarse con sus propias raíces nativas.
Lindsey nació y se crió en el Medio Oeste, y descubrió su amor por la joyería por accidente. Después de recibir su licenciatura en Bellas Artes en Diseño Textil, trabajaba para una boutique local diseñando ropa cuando comenzaron a ofrecer clases de abalorios. Se inscribió y pronto se encontró enseñando y creando joyas de marca privada para la tienda. Con el paso de los años, el trabajo de Lindsey ha evolucionado desde el simple abalorio hasta el trabajo de orfebrería y, finalmente, combina felizmente sus dos medios favoritos: los textiles y el metal. Todas las joyas se hacen a mano en su estudio de Lawrence, Kansas.
In nearly every culture across the globe, humans have met the urge for self expression with storytelling and adornment. Ancient cultures used metals, precious stones, and textiles to express their stories and pass on their legends. It is just this spirit that motivates Mexican-American jewelry designer Lindsey Alonzo.
The name, LUNASOL, combines the beacons, Luna moon and Sol sun; a moniker which speaks to the culture and spirit of design that Lindsey’s work embodies. Inspired by the textures and colors of jewelry from around the world, she designs pieces that feature detailed metal work with a handcrafted aesthetic. Honoring the roots of our global world allows her to extend the symbolic energy adorning her pieces to present day, as well as connect to her own native roots.
Born and raised in the Midwest, Lindsey found her love of jewelry making by accident. Having received her BFA in Textile Design, she was working for a local boutique designing clothing when they began offering beading classes. She enrolled and soon found herself teaching and creating private label jewelry for the store. Over the years, Lindsey’s work has evolved from simple beading to metalsmith work to happily combining her two favorite mediums; textiles and metal. All jewelry is made by hand in her Lawrence, Kansas studio.
