Hello and welcome to made by rusty I'm a electrical engineer by trade and spent 30 years building and wiring control panels for various company's I enjoy my work.
I have always had a passion for wood and over the years, I've made various pieces for family and friends .
So I started madebyrusty making photo frames and gifts from reclaimed timber I got from where I work this I do in my spare time it’s a job I love and hopefully i will be able to one day make this my full time job.
By nature I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I like to take time with my orders and I put a lot of love and care into each piece that I make.
Everything is made to order, from selecting the wood, sanding, assembling and finishing. Its really is a labour of love.
I use reclaimed timber for example pallets ,packing creates , scaffold boards we’re ever I can often spend hours sourcing the right pieces from local timber yards reclamation yards, and other local businesses. It's a great feeling, been able to take an old piece of wood and with some love and care turn it into something usable and beautiful.
When making an order I always try and cut the wood, so the most interesting pieces feature prominently the cuts, scuffs,knots, grooves, nicks. This is what makes every piece individual and truly unique.
By its nature, reclaimed wood is much harder to work with than new of the shelf timber, but the end result is far more rewarding.
I also try and reuse any packaging materials that i can get my hands to limit my impact to the environment and reduce waste.
