Here at Mothers On The Mountain Jewelry, I make beautiful Sterling Silver Jewelry to fall in Love with. Hi! I'm Kelli Mayer ~ Silversmith/Jewelry & Lapidary artist.
I fabricate one-of-a-kind silver jewelry using real gemstones and natural stones. I create each piece with Love and imagination.
*1/2/21~ I am currently healing from a ligament injury and not able to make jewelry like before. I'm focused on healing these days so I apologize for not having a full shop of jewelry to choose from~I hope to back at it one day! As before, I do not do customs.
Thank you for your understanding~ Kelli *
It all started with my mom and her love of turquoise and silver. She passed it onto me and I fell in love with it. I started out setting stones in leather bags back when I was 19. Life moved on and I grew up to become a mom and a wife. The kids finally got old enough to stay out of my stuff, so I went back to school in 2012 and fell in love with silversmithing! I continued on with the classes while my kids. I was in my zone!
I have a wonderful home studio for lapidary and silversmithing! My wonderfully supportive husband built me a soldering table and my jewelers bench to complete my studio!
I love starting with a beautiful stone cabochon that has caught my eye and my heart. I then grab some sheet metal and bezel wire and go from there. I'm much better at making it up as I go along than drawing. It's more exciting to see what the end result will be! It's a surprise! That is why I offer only my work and I do not do custom jewelry at this time. I love what creative ideas have been hiding in my subconscious!
Around 2016 I was given the option of payment for setting a stone, by way of an old lapidary combo machine. It had the grinder, saw and polisher. I decided to be smart and take it. Fast forward to now and I mainly cut the stone I now use in my silver pieces. I fell hard for lapidary, just as I fell hard for silversmithing.
I continued on with my classes while my kids grew up and then my teacher made me realize I had completed enough to try for the degree in Jewelry & Metal Arts! So I dug up my previous degree's general requirements (an AS in Aquaculture/Fisheries!) and applied them to the application for the degree! I got it!
In June of 2022, I walked in the graduation ceremony and received my hard earned degree~ AA in Jewelry & Metal Arts from MPC College! (I was 53 at the time ~ It's never too late!)
I love how my jewelry makes people smile and light up. That is what makes it all worth it for me. The happiness on others faces. The connection I see when a piece of jewelry and a human meet for the first time and click. I know that feeling. It's a "meant to be" moment. Life is short so we should cherish those times.
I make jewelry because I love jewelry. It's a satisfying feeling to create like this. I truly feel blessed to be able to make things so beautiful.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my shop! I really appreciate it!
All the best,
Kelli~ Silversmith & Lapidary Artist
