Traditional candles, while offering a cozy ambiance, can pose some hidden risks. Many standard candles are made from paraffin wax, which is a byproduct of petroleum. When burned, they release potentially harmful chemicals, including toxins like benzene and toluene, which can negatively impact indoor air quality. Additionally, some candles may contain synthetic fragrances or dyes that could cause allergic reactions or respiratory issues. Luckily, we can use essential oils as a natural alternative to fragrance oils. Essential oils come straight from nature and are defined as "a natural oil usually obtained by distillation, with the scent of the plant or source it comes from." They're made by carefully extracting the oil from flowers, fruit peels, seeds, or other plant parts.
By choosing essential oils over traditional fragrance oils, we can confidently say our candles are completely non-toxic. From our research, organic soy wax was the answer to our toxic candle dilemma. Soy wax is non-toxic and clean burning, especially when combined with a natural cotton wick!
