I really like the sample that I received, but I have to say, it is not scoria. I'm not an igneous petrologist or a volcanologist but the sample I received was much too dense to be a scoria - it appears to be a vesicular basalt & a very nice one at that! My experience & education as a geologist has taught me that scoria is an extrusive igneous rock that has been ejected during a volcanic eruption & contained a lot of volcanic gas that is forcibly expelled as it cooled. Scoria is similar to pumice in that they both contained volcanic gases, but pumice contained a lot more & is much less dense than scoria - pumice floats on water & scoria does not. This came super quickly! I was out of town on vacation and had made some pine resin salve for my dad that really helped some irritation on his hands, so I ordered this in hopes of making more. This resin was waiting for me by the time I returned home, complete with a kind handwritten note. I look forward to using it! I appreciate the amount included for this price.
