The Lovely Assistant....
From a young age, Caroline was a crafter. Early projects involved dangly earrings out of conversation heart Valentine's candies as well as seashells. She convinced her crafty aunt and somewhat less crafty mother to teach her how to sew, knit, and crochet; what she couldn't learn from them, she learned from books, and soon enough, the internet. In college she taught herself chain mail weaving, investing in a half mile of electric fence wire from the local Agway to practice. Soon enough, she continued to graduate school, where she earned her Master's of Fine Arts degree in Costume Design and Technology and honed her various skills in fabric manipulation, crafts, and illustration.
Today, Caroline is a freelance costumer in NYC, where she has worked for various off Broadway and regional theatres, the Radio City Rockettes and NYC Ballet, and periodically television commercials, in addition to custom costume and cosplay projects for various clients.
The Magician's Assistant is not just her shop name, but also a role. Her husband is a professional magician, and often calls upon her expertise to create props and costumes for his shows. She has collaborated with him as well as other top professionals in the field to develop performer-friendly, high-quality props, and in some cases replicating those which are otherwise non-existent. Interested performers should contact the shop directly to discuss their needs for either unique props or costume items; she has gimmicked many a garment before, no request is too odd!
