Magus Effects begann sein Leben als kleines, zu Hause tätiges Unternehmen, das sich mit Fotoretusche und -restaurierung beschäftigte. Damals gab es die Dinge wie Photoshop und andere Bildbearbeitungsprogramme noch nicht. Es wurde alles mit Buntstiften und Fotografie gemacht. Der größte Teil der Arbeit bestand darin, Hochzeitsfotos zu retuschieren.

Bald begannen Anfragen nach Videobearbeitung, gefolgt von Anfragen an uns, die Fotos zu machen und die Videokameras für Hochzeiten und andere Veranstaltungen zu fotografieren. Da wir ein knappes Budget hatten, mussten wir lernen, die Dinge zu reparieren, die wir konnten. Dazu gehörten nicht nur unsere Artikel und Ausrüstung, sondern auch alles von einem Riss in einem Kleid oder Smoking bis zu einem gebrochenen Tischbein. Mehr als einmal haben wir es geschafft, ein Ereignis zu speichern, weil wir ein paar zusätzliche Rollen Klebeband, Sekundenkleber oder Nadel und Faden hatten.

Dies führte dazu, dass wir unsere eigenen Requisiten für Hintergründe und Fotoshootings herstellten. Bald fragten uns die Leute, woher wir diesen oder jenen Stuhl hätten, und wir mussten erklären, dass er sie selbst für die Shootings gemacht hat. Es dauerte nicht lange, bis jemand darum bat, einen der Stühle zu kaufen. Wir sahen keinen Grund, warum nicht, und es wurde ein Deal geschlossen. In der nächsten Woche kam die Person zurück und fragte nach 3 weiteren für ihr Esszimmer.

Glücklicherweise hatte die Technologie mehrere Fortschritte gemacht. WIR konnten das Fotolabor und den größten Teil des Studios dank Photoshop verkleinern. Dies ermöglichte es uns, einen Shop für die Herstellung zu haben. Als sich die Technologie veränderte und weiterentwickelte, änderte sich auch unser kleines Geschäft. Die ganze Zeit, um es klein und einfach zu halten.

Jetzt, da das digitale Zeitalter in vollem Gange ist und auf jede erdenkliche Weise Teil unseres Lebens wird, entwickeln auch wir uns weiter. Jetzt konzentrieren wir uns hauptsächlich darauf, unsere Arbeit in digitaler Form zu halten. Wir haben immer noch ein Geschäft, aber jetzt sind es mehr Computer- und CNC-Maschinen als die alten Elektrowerkzeuge mit jedem Aufsatz, den der Mensch kennt. Auch wenn wir den Shop immer noch nutzen, ist er nicht mehr rückwärts brechen oder arbeitsintensiv.

So lieber Leser, wir hoffen, dass Ihnen unsere kleine Reise durch die Vergangenheit gefallen hat. Wir hoffen auch, dass es zumindest lehrreich und unterhaltsam war. Magus Effects first started its life as a small, at home business, dealing with photo retouching and restoration. Back then the things like Photoshop and other photo editing programs did not exist. It was all done with colored pencils and photography. Most of the work was retouching wedding photos.

Soon requests for video editing started followed by requests for us to take the photos and shoot the video cameras for weddings and other events. As we were on a shoestring budget, we needed to learn to repair what things we could. This not only included our items, and equipment but also everything from a rip in a gown or tux to a broken table leg. More than once, we managed to save an event because we had a few extra rolls of duct tape, super glue or needle and thread.

This lead to us making our own props for backgrounds and photoshoots. Soon people were asking us where we got this item or that chair, and we had to explain that he made them ourselves for the shoots. It wasn’t long before someone asked to buy one of the chairs. We saw no reason why not and a deal was struck. The next week the person came back and asked for 3 more for their dining room set.

Thankfully technology had made several advances. WE were able to downsize the photo lab and most of the studio, thanks to Photoshop. This allowed us to have a shop for fabrication. As technology changed and advanced so did our little business. All the time, keeping it small and simple.

Now with the digital age in full swing and becoming a part of our lives in every possible way, we too are evolving. Now we mainly focus on keeping our work in a digital form. We still have a shop, but now, it is more computer and CNC machines than the old power tools with every attachment known to man. Even though we still use the shop, it is no longer back breaking or labor intensive.
