Major Darling was founded in Austin, Texas in 2017 with a simple idea: dog gear should be thoughtfully designed, well made, and actually work for real life with dogs.
We create collars, leashes, training gear, and everyday goods for dogs and the people who love them. Our designs are informed by years of hands-on experience working with dogs, so function always comes first—but we also believe practical dog gear can be beautiful, colorful, and fun to live with.
Our collars and leashes are sewn locally in Austin in partnership with The Refugee Collective, a nonprofit social enterprise that creates fair, dignified employment opportunities for refugee women. We value long-term relationships with the people who help make our products and choose materials and construction methods with durability and everyday use in mind.
Major Darling is especially known for our martingale collars, including made-to-order custom color combinations. Martingales can provide a more secure fit for dogs who may slip or back out of traditional flat collars, while relaxing again when the leash is slack. We also make double-handle leashes, long lines, training accessories, and other products designed to make life with dogs a little easier.
Behind Major Darling is a genuine love of dogs in all their imperfect, funny, complicated glory. We work closely with rescue dogs and their people, and that experience shapes how we think about everything we make.
We’re not interested in creating products for some imaginary “perfect dog.”
We make things for the dog who pulls sometimes. The dog who gets nervous. The dog who rolls in something disgusting five minutes after a bath. The dog learning how to navigate the world. The dog who has come a very long way.
