We don’t just make comics. We make superheroes....
It all started back in 2012 when I created a business called Personal Art. I created around 10 different types of artwork which were all personal in some way to the buyer - the comics were pretty much the only thing that sold!
It wasn't just the sales though which led me to focus solely on the comics, it was actually more to do with people's reaction when they got a comic. How in awe they were of the high level of detail, because I thought of everything which would make a difference, such as what they both wore on their first date, their pet names for each other. These tiny details I realised is what made my comics so great.
I have always been into really thoughtful, sentimental and personalised gifts. I'm massively nostalgic and I've always believed that it is those small special moments and good deeds that really make people happy. I'm also a great lover of stories, I have many stories of my own, people often confide their stories in me and I also read tons of books.
There is something really special about turning someone's memories into a comic strip, conveying emotion, sentimentality, including people who are deceased, sometimes you are dealing with quite sensitive matters.
All our comics are entirely hand drawn from scratch, every single comic we create is thoroughly discussed with the client first, we have never made a comic that the client didn't like. I'm quite positive that our love of what we do shines through in our work.
Fast forward 4 years, it wasn't until 2016 that I set up Make Me A Comic and gave it my full attention, now 3 years later I have a team of 9 artists and I find my role is now chief storyteller and art director. Although I do occasionally get to draw.
I handpicked every single one of the team, they all have different styles and they all love what they do. Not only that they are all good honest genuine people, all of us go over and above what is always asked of us - and that is a key factor to our success.
