From an Apartment to a Downtown Storefront
It all began in owner Devin's apartment in Minneapolis. Tinkering with harness leather he had purchased at a flea market, Devin designed his first cuff and began his foray into the art of 100% salvaged jewelry making. To this day he never cuts corners with his materials- everything in the shop is salvaged, found on the side of the street, or the result of researching factory close-downs.
After attending his first art show, Devin realized he enjoyed jewelry innovation more than his restaurant managing and quit working for "the man". He started Makeshift Accessories and in 2012 found a permanent location for a studio and gallery space in Northfield, MN. He now considers himself to work 80 to 90 hours a week "on his lifetime hobby," which has lead him to shows all across the country, meeting gallery owners and other artists. In 2013 he even had the privilege of being accepted to the Renegade Craft Fair in London, UK.
Devin wholesales his unique jewelry across the country and spends most of his time working the back of the gallery in his two floor studio. Though there are many staples to his collection of work, Devin's work is completely dependent upon the materials he acquires and thus most of his pieces are one of a kind and can only be replicated with the exact same material.
