I ordered 3 signs. When I got them, I was blown away. They are beautiful, custom, handmade, one of a kind signs. I could not believe I got them for such a great price. The owner personally called me and updated me on the progress and shipping thru out the process. I would highly recommend them, you will not be disappointed. Thank You!!

About

Extracting the natural beauty out of abandoned wood and repurposing it for a higher calling and purpose.

There is beauty all around us and there are opportunities all around us to respect that beauty. At Many Splintered Things, I aspire to pay homage to the past, to history's beauty; and to bring it current in a modern and functional format, that both inspires and serves an everyday purpose.

My primary medium is reclaimed pallet wood. But I re-purpose any kind of wood that I can come across. Pallet wood just was the first material that I had access too. It is interesting how there are so many varying types of wood in pallets. I heard once that some pallets are made from wood from other countries. Wood that was "tossed out". Immediately to us Americans, especially ones that live in a small little suburban areas, those woods are "exotic"! I have found Oak, Ash, Walnut, Spruce, Maple and even others that I have never seen before. Beneath the surface of all that gunk and grime that the pallets were subject too, I have found some of the most beautiful wood that I have ever seen.

As I contemplate my journey into wood working, It actually has been a lot longer than I initially realized. As a child I would spend hours upon hours out in the wood shop with my grand father. Never really realizing that all that time with him would instill in me a skill set that laid dormant until just a little bit ago. My venturing into selling wooden art pieces began by accident actually! My first project was a decoration in my own home. I laid pallet wood out on my dining room wall and then placed a mantel over it because our Southern California, Sub-Urban, Cookie-Cutter, home does not have a real fireplace, nor a place for a mantel. So My wife and I created this art and decoration with a purpose: to have a place for the christmas stockings!!! LOL.

My next project really was the fulcrum to the outward presence of my skill set. And it too was originally an at home need! My wife asked me to go over to the trash piles of the construction yards related to the new home construction in our new community, and come home with a 2x4 or something so that we could mark the height of the children as they grow. She wanted something more than the spine of the door in the kitchen to track their growth. She did not want to have to take the door off if we ever moved from this home!!! In my O.C.D., perfectionist, artist's mind, I was not willing to "settle" for a mere piece of cruddy lumber. I then set out to design a growth chart for her that would serve the purposes that she requested, as well as serve my artistic senses and be an art piece in our home. Little did I know that this then became quite the phenomena amongst anyone of our extended family and friends who visited our home and saw this piece in our main living area. I began to make many more for all of them. I even started customizing them with their family name on them!

It is my passion and desire to provide you with a functional art piece for your home or person with my work. I hope that you will see that my work is both specific and general, that I pore my heart into each item that I create. I would love to create a custom piece for you and your needs, But I would also like that piece to mean something to both you and I not only because we worked together to make it, but because of where the wood came from or was originally purposed for!

I am also always looking for more wood! Pallet wood, Barn floor wood, old chests of drawers, anything with history and strength. So if you find something that you want made out of some wood that you would have otherwise thrown away because you did not know what to do with it; give me a ring!!! Let's extract something beautiful out of it.

I am open to trades! I am always looking for more tools for my wood working shop. I am also willing to hear what you have to trade too! Lets talk!! I can't wait to meet you!
