Filling the Creative Void
"Things have a life of their own," said the gypsy with a harsh accent. "It's simply a matter of waking up their souls." - Gabriel García Márquez, One Hundred Years of Solitude
Material Poetry is about the transformation and reconfiguration of found objects into new art. Each object is a capsule of history waiting to be opened through research and shaped through the artistic process. Dana Davis designs her unique, up-cycled jewelry with the intention of liberating historical objects from the dusty junk drawers and dark closets where they have been buried for decades.
Dana graduated from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia with a Bachelors degree in Fine Art Photography, but she couldn't resist the gravity of old architecture, vintage trinkets, and antiques. Dana resides in Philadelphia where runs Material Poetry as a one-woman operation. She scours antique markets, flea markets, and online auctions to gather her raw materials. She then researches the objects and designs the jewelry. Once the material has been reinvigorated, Dana photographs her pieces and makes them available on her website. Each purchase comes in a hand-stamped, 100% recycled paper box, and includes a card detailing the history of the jewelry.
Make history yours.
