How Mattie May Collectibles Came to Be!
I am a proud Mom, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and wife to a wonderful husband who is allowing me to fulfill a dream that I have had for MANY years! Since childhood, I have always loved crafts of any kind- but especially crochet and knitting. I always dreamed of owning a shop where I could spend the day making and selling beautiful items. Since life with a big family definitely required financial responsibility, I was blessed to have a career in Dental Hygiene that spanned the course of almost 50 years- ranging from cleaning teeth to teaching hygiene and then moving on to consulting. All of that time, I used any spare time to crochet or knit items for gifts- always wishing it could be full time.
When I was able to retire from my dental career, I knew that I wanted to revisit my childhood dream and with the encouragement from so many family members and friends, I decided to embark on a way to market the things that I make and bring joy not only to the buyers but to myself .
Needless to say, there are so many things to do to open a shop online, but I have spent the last year researching, planning, and crocheting an entire closet of "collectibles" for my shop.
When choosing the name for my business, I wanted to honor my beloved Grandmother who taught me to crochet! She was amazing and lived to be 99.
She had so much energy and patience and always inspired me to want to do more. Her name was Martha May but her close friends called her "Mattie" - thus the name for my business: Mattie May Collectibles
My husband Richard gave me the amazing last name "Kiss" so my desire is to provide handmade items that have been created with love and a desire to bring joy to anyone that receives anything that I make.
