I'm Zena, owner and designer at Me & Zena Jewellery, based in East London, UK.
I love 90s pop culture, pastel colours, New Age art, quirky illustration and things with cute faces.
After completing a BA in Illustration in Edinburgh in 2003, I started making illustrative book art. I quickly turned to jewellery after moving to London in 2005 when my head exploded with ideas. I taught myself jewellery design (making some interesting mistakes along the way 😬 ) and created Me & Zena in 2007.
The brand is my attempt to battle all things boring with fun, candy-coloured jewellery. I love that my jewellery makes people happy and doesn’t take itself too seriously. My inspiration ranges from outer space to the internet, spirituality to pop-culture (always with a detour through a field of unicorns).
Since its inception, Me & Zena has won the 'Fashion Accessory of the Year' award from the BTAA (2015 and 2016) for my pencil ring and iridescent unicorn ring, collaborated with the Saatchi Gallery, been featured in magazines from Vogue to Grazia and worn by stylish babes such as Rihanna, Cara Delevigne, Kate Moss and Pixie Geldof.
Because I’m a Gemini who can’t settle on any one thing, in the last five years I trained as a yoga teacher, completed an MA in religions and philosophies at SOAS university and worked as a buyer for a yoga company. Ultimately though, my heart lies with design, colour, art and jewellery.
