The long, winding road to make MeckMom
I’m a proud daughter of two incredible parents and a sibling to 9 (6 sixters and 3 brothers). I loved leadership, art, sports and public speaking as a teenager which led me to study communications at BYU.
I met my husband, Jason, at the first game of the season. We sat next to each other at that first game and were ring-shopping by the last. We moved to Columbus, OH after our wedding and attended The Ohio State University. Our first daughter came along in 1999 followed by 5 others over 14 years - 3 boys and 3 girls.
I’ve always been passionate about art and technology so graphic design came naturally to me. I started working as a freelance designer in 2003. I also have a knack for organization, strategy, and simplification. Many moms would come to me for advice on how to streamline the monotonous parts of motherhood. I created MeckMom.com back in 2006 to get my out-of-the-box mothering solutions into a shareable format. The site grew over the years. Eventually, I transitioned it to be a place to market my design work as well as my favorite mom tips. Some of my most popular posts involved teaching core gospel principles with creative object lessons - a talent that was refined by teaching my autistic son, Jack.
Late in 2019, I felt impressed to share my ideas with a larger audience. After a lot of prayer and worry, I launched an online Come Follow Me course in 2020. It has grown to include hundreds of families around the world. My focus is to create meaningful, memorable, simple teaching tools for families and teachers. I create weekly video content that follows the Come Follow Me curriculum, providing insights, ideas, and printable tools. It’s been the most exhausting, heart-driven project I’ve ever done.
In 2016, my husband was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He’s now stage 4 but still fighting strong. The scripture study course we created together has been an incredible anchor for our family. We had no idea his cancer would return when we kicked off the online course in 2020, but it has been an incredible blessing - both financially and emotionally.
These past seven years of fighting to keep Jason’s cancer at bay, praying for our kids to thrive despite all the hard, and utilizing the gifts and talents we’ve been blessed with have been stretching, to say the least. We’ve learned how to love better by being loved so profoundly by others. It’s been a beautiful, awful, wonderful thing. I wouldn’t trade our experiences for all the world.
