Memories Made
After more than 20 years spent in the corporate world working for a very large telecom company it was time to make a change. I opened Memories Made Custom in 2008 while still working full time. It was a part time venture that soon took up more of my time than my full time job did. I opened this Etsy Shop in 2013 and through hard work and perseverance our little business steadily grew to the point where I was able to quit my corporate job and devote myself full time to this business.
As a husband and father of two I struggled with the decision to quit my job for several years. I worked at my full time job while dedicating every spare moment to the nurturing and building the business and as Memories Made continued to grow the decision was ultimately made for me; it had gotten to the point that there simply were not enough hours in the day to continue with my day job and keep up with the growing demands of running the business - all while raising two young children who are ultimately the reason I started the business in the first place. Finally in October of 2015 I left my job and dedicated myself full time to Memories Made.
What I learned along the way is that if you operate with integrity and passion, create quality and unique custom items and never settle or compromise you can build a successful business. It has been more work, more hours, and more difficult than I ever imagined but as we approach 42,000 sales and more than 300,000 custom items sold on Etsy alone it has turned out to be the best decision I have ever made. By working 7 days a week, 365 days a year and never quitting I was able to get “lucky” and create a business out of nothing that has surpassed all of my dreams and goals. I recognize how privileged I am that I get to do something I enjoy so much and I hope to be doing this for many more years to come.
