► BACKSTORY
I had a strange dream about 3 years ago. In this dream I was at a Guggenheim art show: a futuristic exhibit run by covert agents from MakerBot. They had basically been spying on me and my little 3d printing etsy shop and proceeded to create everything I had made but about 5-8 times better, more intricate, more subtle, more layered, textured, polygonal, more next level . . . just better in every way.

And there had to be about 300 different geometric objects, all on tables ready to be sold. I was livid!

I was so upset. I looked around at all these amazing geometric things, things I could have never conceived of. I was beat. My highest aspiration was already done, there was no point. These were things I just did not know how to sculpt. Advanced alien geometries, funny math experiments. Inside-out, non-manifold, weaved out of plastic amazements.

And then I woke up and realized it was all in my head! These amazing things were not made yet, and I knew it was time to start decoding this dream . . . .

► We are thrilled by the continued opportunity to create and are thankful to all our supporting buyers and promoters. Thank You!

Frequently asked questions

How are your items made?

After designing the item in our 3d software, we embark on the adventure of 3d printing. In this process a robotic arm heats up plastic thread to 230 degrees Celsius and extrudes it into the desired shape. After layer upon layer is extruded and cooled, our object begins to emerge. This process is much slower than many people realize, taking 3 to 4 hours to make a baseball sized object. Some of our larger planters and vases take more than 24 hours to print.

Several prototypes are required to fine tune the print settings. With each revision we focus on making the highest quality item we possibly can. By the time our items are listed online, we have spent several weeks working through the details.

What kind of plastic material do you use?

PLA, or Polylactic acid, is a non-toxic polyester commonly used to make tea bags, fruit containers, and other types of Eco-friendly packaging.

This interesting plastic is made from corn sugar. It is biodegradable when composted, leaving a positive impact on the environment.

PLA is chemically related to lactic acid, an organic compound felt as the 'muscle burn' during intense exercise.

When heated PLA smells sweet, like pancake syrup.
