What material is the stamp made of?
Stamps for metal made of high carbon alloyed tool steel with hardness 53-55 HRC.
Pottery stamps made of stainless steel (for sizes up to 25 mm) or brass (for sizes more the 25 mm).
The stamps for leather used with a hammer are made of steel, the stamps for the press machine for leather are made of brass.
I don't have a logo, can you desing it for me?
Sure! You can send a simple drawing or describe what you would like to be on a stamp and we will make a logo for you for free!
I want to mark my jewelry. Which logo to choose and how small can it be?
The typical logo size for jewelry ranges from 3mm to 10mm, but you can go smaller or larger. When designing your logo, it's critical that you design for the size you want it to be on your jewelry. We often get beautiful, amazing logos that have zero chance of being converted to a stamp at the desired size because of excessive detail.
What metals can I mark with my stamp?
Your steel stamp can be used on any annealed steel or softer metals. You can cold stamp with a hammer, cold stamp with a press, or hot-stamp with a hammer onto red hot metal.
How to use a steel stamp?
The first step in the metal stamping process is to fully support the metal from underneath. This can be done with either a steel block. Also, you need a 16 oz. (or heavier) hammer.
Next, place the metal on the block, and tape down the bottom so that it’s secure, without covering too much of the metal.
Once the metal is taped in place, use a ruler and a marker pen to mark the tape in the positions of where you’d like the impressions to sit.
Using your marks as a guideline, hold the stamp in place with the logo facing your body and ensure it’s fully upright and in complete contact with the surface of the metal.
When you’re ready, raise the hammer and strike the stamp from the top and repeat as necessary. The hammer strike has to be strong.
How long can I use my stamp?
Our custom steel stamps are designed from high carbon tool steel and hardened to assure they will give a long life when stamping any annealed (non-hardened) metal.
In what format is it better to send my design?
Email your art to us in "black and white only" (no gray shading). Vector art in EPS, PDF, or SVG format is preferred, but we can often use high resolution .jpg and .png files. If it is not vector art, please send a large, over-sized version.
