I am a Part-time chef and a full-time blacksmith working out of a small blacksmith shop in my garage in the small town of Prospect, Ohio. My interest in working with metal was inspired by helping my wife with her wire wrapping and hammered copper jewelry business. Bellas Jewelry Tree.
The life of a chef requires many nights, weekends and holidays. This lifestyle enslaves you to a kitchen with sometimes limited freedom. As a blacksmith, my goal is to continually learn and strive to make every hand hammered item from my shop unique to my style. I believe that there is a fine balance between perfection and having the work still possess the character of fire and steel.
Why “Metalchef_Forge”? The meaning of “chef” means many different things to many different people. To some, it means an egotistical tyrant. To others it means a professional cook. To me it means a professional cook with the ability to make something delicious, creative and profitable while responsibly utilizing what you have available to you.
I believe that this principle transfers from the kitchen to the forge. Utilization. Creativity. Attention to detail. Visually pleasing.
These characteristics along with many others were engrained in me while growing up on a farm, serving in the U.S Army and thousands of hours in restaurants. They all apply to the life of a blacksmith. Bottom line. Quality.
