Announcement   Ever been at a party and ran into the dilemma where you just didn’t know how to start a great conversation? Not to worry; Micha Design’s Conversational Pieces do the talking for you!
Born in Berlin, Germany, Micha Kuchenhoff (founder, head designer, and CEO of Micha Design) took the plunge and moved overseas to the sunny shores of California 15 years ago. A former owner of an organization business, Micha spent her time cleaning and placing clutter in her client’s homes into functional spaces. During this business venture, Micha found herself finding antique pieces from vintage décor to old jewelry that her clients simply wanted to throw away. Micha, who saw the value in the vintage jewelry, decided to take the pieces home and began playing around with the materials creating a unique and ‘chunky’ necklace. After receiving tons of compliments and some more inspiration, Micha launched Micha Design out of her San Diego home in 2005. She became locally known for her signature look: “knots that tie non-traditional and vintage materials into fashion which equate the fresh and original pieces”.

Nearly 5 years later Micha perfected her jewelry design skill, catching the eyes of consumers, the media, and even celebrities. Micha Design has been featured in National press and media including Cosmopolitan (Latina), InStyle Online, Nylon, LA Times, 944, Beverly Hills Lifestyle, Vampd, GenLuxe, Krave, Riviera, and many more. Showrooms throughout California have been lined up for months to get their hands on one of her pieces, which influenced her recent move to LA in September 2009, causing an even bigger buzz over Micha Design. Her pieces have been worn by stars such as Jessica Simpson, Fergie of the Black Eyed Peas, Stephanie Pratt of the Hills, Kourtney Kardashian, Ashley Greene of Twilight, and many more.

Micha has always had a knack for offbeat materials and a great eye for detail. Pieces from her past collections have incorporated materials such as leather, lace, feathers, door knockers, brooches, fabric roses, scrabble pieces, doilies (…you name it) which makes the Micha Design collection distinctive, yet each piece is so definitively different making it near impossible to choose just one. She’s always had an eco-friendly state of mind, finding the purpose in re-purpose materials. “I just want people to know that being eco-friendly does not mean sacrificing fashion and style. Almost all of my pieces have recycled material, proving that ‘eco’ can be haute couture,” Micha says.

Her unique and one-of-a-kind ‘upcycled’ pieces can be found in boutiques along the West Coast including San Diego and LA, as well as at large retail chains Nordstrom’s and Bloomingdales. Micha has been featured in several fashion shows and events and has worked with the talents of David Alexander, Maggie Barry (in the Rock Siren Show and Wrapped in Beauty photoshoot), Gordana Gelhausen of Project Runway Season 6 (in LA Fashion Week 2009), and Nicholas Clements-Lindsey (in NY Fashion Week 2010).
