About

Welcome to MICKALA Design

My name is Michal Keller, and I am the designer behind Mickala brand.
The name "Mickala" is a fusion of my first and last name creating a short and memorable brand name.
I was born in Ein Hanatziv Kibbutz located in the northern part of Israel, but nowadays I live and work in a small village near Tel Aviv called "Tzafariya". I am also a wife and a mom, have 3 lovely daughters and a supporting husband.
My artistic path started a while ago when I began working as an assistant metalsmithing. I then decided I wish to become a professional metalsmithing designer. After visiting the Bezalel Academy of Design, I was fascinated with Ceramics, and so my journey took a different turn which I am keeping ever since.
During my 4 years of studies, I enjoyed creating and working until late hours of the night, making sure every little detail is refined and made to perfection.
My final project was designing a light fixture, made of Porcelain, a beautiful translucent material which was a perfect choice for my needs. Since I was pregnant at the time, the light form was inspired by the body of a pregnant female, printed with an embryo, only revealed when the light is turned on.
I completed my formal studies at the Bezalel Academy, in the Ceramic and Glass department in 2013. After repeating requests from friends and family, I have decided to concentrate on designing Judaica, ceramic mezuzahs, home decor and the rest is history.
My style is a fusion of modern and rustic. I love creating items I would be happy to receive myself :)
I am all for aesthetics but also admiring functional objects that will be used with joy and not stay hidden inside drawers.
My dream is to expand my business and start offering my designs to the rest of the world. I hope to continue and develop new models that will be given as gifts to people appreciating good design.
These days, I am enjoying my time creating ceramic designs sold locally as well as teaching enthusiasts students ceramic skills so they can create their own pottery.
In my spare time (whenever that is optional with 3 girls and a husband), I also love sewing and dancing, which was my biggest passion since childhood and still accompanies me today.
