Turning Old into New
I opened my shop in July of 2008, at the urging of a friend. I had been making cards for a couple of years at that point, mostly from magazines. Somewhere along the way, I started using vintage books and was taken with these old images. Most of these books were headed for the trash and I loved being able to cut them up and turn them into something beautiful. Over the years, my style and skill have evolved and improved. Many of my cards still reflect my quirky humor, although I can be serious at times. My cards are still original, one-of-a-kind creations. I have been tempted to make reprints for more mass selling, but have never done it. I feel that this is my trademark, that each card I make is a little helium balloon that I let go into the world.
In 2010, I had the idea to purchase a button machine, and the button side of Misplaced Talents was born. Buttons are fun to make and fun to wear, and they have been a successful asset to my shop.
At heart, though, I am a paper crafter. I love paper. If I had a chance at a second career, I think I'd open an amazing stationery store, one that would be so tantalizing, it would get the whole world writing letters again~!
