From Biologist to Graphic Designer
I remember the first project I can honestly say I spent a great deal of time designing. It was a volunteer flyer for the upcoming season of habitat restoration projects 10 years ago. My boyfriend at the time (now husband) owned a graphic design business and he showed me some of the fancy tools he used to make his art. I dabbled in a few more random projects over the next couple years as I finished my master's degree in biology (wildlife ecology). My goal was always to have the best designed powerpoint or poster presentation, which I probably spent more time on the design than the actual content.
I made my first wedding design suite for my sister's wedding. She is all about Etsy and encouraged me to create on shop on this site to sell my work. I made this shop to sell my work. I am always making things for friends or family and I post the few samples that are practical to sell on this platform.
Now I've retired from being a biologist (at least for the next decade) to stay at home and raise my two kids, Cedar and Sierra. I design logos, business cards, flyers, t-shirts, and any other random projects my husband throws at me from his business, Graticle, Inc. (www.graticle.com) whenever my kids are sleeping. During the other part of my free time, I try to think up new and unique designs for wedding invitations, thank-you cards, and other print needs. I'm always looking for motivation to add something new to my shop so I welcome custom projects.
I have always loved nature aspects (enough to receive a masters degree in it) and my designs reflect that.
