Selling fabric from around the US
Hello! My name is Mariah and I run Modern Cloth from my home. I left the retail world 10 years ago when my first daughter was born, and like many moms on Etsy started selling hand made baby clothing. Somewhere along the way I started to realize that I wanted to spend less time at the sewing machine and more time with my two daughters, but not give up on spending my days surrounded by fabrics. After some research I decided to make the switch to the Supplies side of Etsy and sell the fabrics that I had been purchasing wholesale. Now I carry fabrics from the more modern side of the designer fabric world, always trying to stand out a little in the crowd.
It's so much fun for me to dream up creative uses for the fabrics that I purchase for the shop, and know that it's ok that I don't have the time to make everything into a reality. I absolutely adore hearing what my customers are making, seeing pictures of their finished projects, and helping create bundles for their quilts. My customers are so inspiring and talented, I am endlessly impressed by their ideas!! I try to follow the trends somewhat, but not exclusively. I try to keep it clean, bright, fun, colorful, modern, and lively. I brought my years of Nordstrom customer service standards to my shop and I hope to really impress you and make a personal, human connection with every one of my customers. I appreciate the support of the whole Etsy community and try to build a no-pressure, just-having-fun-being-creative relationship with my customers.
Personally, I've been sewing since I was 5 and have sewn my way through too many fun projects (both successes and failures) to count! I love sewing for my girls, around the house, upholstery, accessories, apparel, etc. Because my husband is in the Navy, we move rather frequently. Selling fabrics from home allows me to drag my business with me no matter where we live (Stateside, anyhow). Who knows where we'll end up next, but as long as there's room for some shelves and a table, I am going to continue running Modern Cloth!
Thank you for taking the time to read through my story, and please contact me if you have any questions along your creative path!
