Our Story Behind Modern Cross
In 2020, my husband and I were walking through a season of deep uncertainty and difficulty. The future—both ours and the world’s—felt fragile and hopeless. At times, all we could do was cry and pray.
One night, as we were putting our son to bed, he suddenly exclaimed, “Mommy! Daddy! There is a cross!” He was pointing at the wall. At first, we saw nothing, but he kept insisting. Upon closer look, we realized the shadow of his rocking horse was cast in the exact shape of a cross because of the way the toy was angled. In that moment, we felt God was revealing His presence to us through our son’s eyes—right there, in the midst of the quiet darkness.
Modern Cross was created to remember that night. Since then, we have been crafting minimalist forms to showcase bold faith.
TWELVE is simple and modern in form. It features a 12-degree slope angle, inspired by the biblical significance of the number twelve: the twelve tribes of Israel, the twelve disciples of Jesus, and the twelve baskets of food left over after Christ fed the multitude. As Matthew 14:20 says, “They all ate and were satisfied, and the disciples picked up twelve basketfuls of broken pieces that were left over.”
The three-dimensional form serves as a visual symbol of Christ’s body on the cross—how His body bore the weight of our sin, how God’s loving gaze rests upon us, and how He is always present in our space.
