Frequently asked questions

How are your original mosaic tiles made?

Mosaic tiles are cut by hand and then stamped with detail and additional detail is added by hand. After bisque firing, glazes are applied by hand before finally firing to 2160 degrees Fahrenheit. Every part of my process takes place in my home studio from raw clay until finished piece. Nothing is outsourced. I do not use commercial cutters or mass produced press sprig molds like many other mosaic tile makers. These are my own original, hand drawn designs that cannot be found elsewhere unless someone is copying my work. When you buy from me, you know that you are getting an original, artist designed item. These tiles are high fired and have an absorption of less than 2%.

Can tiles be used in wet areas or outdoors?

My handmade tiles can be used in indoor areas like showers, tub surrounds or backsplashes, but are not recommended in permanently submerged situations like pools, hot tubs, etc… I do not recommend that tiles or wall hangings or mosaic tiles be placed outdoors in places where they will be completely exposed to freezing weather, though they will do well under cover on porches, patios, entryways, or deep eaves in the winter. Pavers or bird baths can be brought indoors or to a dry outdoor area for winter.

How can individual products vary?

Though a tile or wall hanging is cast from an original mold, because I hand press each tile, all will have some slight variations in detail. Since I do not slip cast, the clay is touched and manipulated through every phase of making each piece. Because of this, there may be subtle differences in size or glaze from tile to tile, imperfections left by my hands or tools, the marks of a human maker- not a machine. Likewise, underglazes and glazes are added by hand. Tiles with multiple colors can take a considerable amount of time to glaze. Though all is handmade, I strive to make each piece as perfect as possible and every listing photo is a true representation of the item you will receive.

Are your gourd lamps and art made by hand?

All of my gourd art and lamps are 100% cleaned, carved, and painted by hand with my own original designs. Each one is painted with quality acrylics and sealed with a satin finish UV resistant coating. Every part of the process takes place in my home and is done by me.

Do you accept custom orders?

I will gladly discuss custom orders with customers, but I am only doing so through my standalone website, which is linked in my “about” section, or it can be found via web search. Please reach out to me there to discuss.

I do not generally upcharge for custom orders, so prices are comparable to anything you see in this shop. Moving custom orders to my own website is a way that I can continue to make the prices comparable. Everything else will continue to be available in this shop.

Do you have detailed shipping policies?

At times, a package may be marked delivered by your carrier but not be at your address. In this case, I recommend waiting a day or two to see if your item arrives. If it does not, you can call your carrier’s toll free number and they can use GPS to verify whether your package was delivered at your address. If you will not be home to receive a package, you can request that the carrier hold your package for local pickup so that your item stays safe.
