1985. A few years after trade school, studying carpentry and woodworking, it started like most small shops. A table saw, drill press, a few clamps... and the love for wood.
There have been many changes over the years. Back then my focus was custom furniture and home decor. Raw material was purchased from the lumber store - boards that were dried, sized and planed flat. But later I discovered a different way to use this wonderful, natural resource. I could start with a fresh cut log and work it into something beautiful and useful.

And so it is today. Most of my work originates from hardwood logs, acquired locally.
Where I live in western Minnesota we are blessed with an abundance of beautiful hardwoods. Elm, ash, maple, box elder, walnut, hackberry, oak, to name a few. The wood I use is from trees removed due to storm damage, new development, or for safety reasons, and the logs are ear-marked for the landfill or biomass plant. I am happy to reclaim this wood for a better purpose. Working with this natural material is very gratifying.

I specialize in decorative, natural-edge bowls and functional salad bowls. Each piece is designed and handcrafted one at a time. Only hand tools are used at the lathe. Every item is truly one-of-a-kind. Custom orders are always welcome.

My wife’s input is vital. Ann is part-time order taker, shipper, design consultant, shop cleaner, and full-time cheerleader. Without her, this business would not exist.

For me... I am happiest at my lathe, designing and creating.
