Inspired by Vintage Victorian Memento Mori, Victorian Specimen collecting, and my own spiritual practice. Myth and Moon Relics creates keepsake jewellery and homewares inspired by memories of nature and the wild, wonder from our mother earth and mother moon. Taking knowledge from the days of the wise woman who knew the meanings of plants and stones to craft beautiful one-off spell jars in hand blown glass spheres. Recognising that beauty does not disappear in death, but can carry on through the use of ethically sourced and treated butterflies, moths, beetles, and scavenged bones.

Each piece is handcrafted with love and care in the North East of England and I try to source as much from the UK as possible. Most of my insect specimens come from British entomology specialists and my bones are usually scavenged by a couple ramblers in Scotland.

Just like in nature every item is original and different, no two are the same.

A note on my practice. I have studied the old ways for over 30 years, from when I got a job in an occult shop as a young teen. I devoured every book I got my hands on about Paganism, Wicca, and other Earth based spiritual practices. I rekindled my love after moving to Northern England from America and felt an even deeper connection to the ways of my ancestors. What sets my Spell Pendants apart, and why they are worth more than a simple miniature jar filled with ingredients is my knowledge and experience and that I do not just pour ingredients in a jar and that is the spell. A spell needs energy from the practitioner and from the moon, this energy is imparted through a ritual involving appropriate crystals, incense, and following the cycles of the moon, a waxing moon to gain properties (gaining self love for example), a waning moon to lose properties (ridding ourselves of self doubt for example), so my spells take several days to create. Without these rituals that share our intentions with the Universe ingredients in a container are just ingredients. Each spell pendant is also created by hand which gives energy and every piece of jewellery comes with a hand painted information card on what ingredients are in and what each ingredients properties are, as well as a ritual you can perform to recharge the energy of your spell. You will note my shop will never have love spells or hexes. I do not believe in trying to bend the will of others who have not wished it so. I do believe that we can do spells on ourselves that make us open to love, if you are looking for love, you do not want someone who is forced to be attracted to you, but someone who loves you for your magical self.

I do make spell custom orders, I endeavour to respond to messages within hours of them being sent, and will discuss your needs with you. Depending on the moon cycle, though, these can take weeks, so please contact me with plenty of notice.

On the label Witch. I do not call myself a witch, but you may so. I, personally, have no problem with the term, but avoid it because of the history and people's understanding of the word. I was raised in a religious home where witches were creatures who danced with the devil, sacrificed babies, and had relations with goats. These harmful stories were devised by the church to rid communities of their wise woman who knew the knowledge of Mother Earth. The church has always had a problem with women having any sort of power or autonomy over their bodies and being able to provide herbal recipes to bring on a cycle or cure a cough threatened their religious desires to have women as subservient chattel.

People seem surprised that I am Vegetarian but use insect specimens and animal bones in my jewellery. All my butterfly, moth, beetle, and bone specimens are ethically sourced from ethically accredited breeders who provide these insects for butterfly gardens and zoos and all specimens have died naturally. Bumblebees are bees I have found in nature just walking, some I have found dead, some I have brought home to give sugar syrup to and have not been able to revive. Feathers or animal bones are also scavenged either by myself or by scavengers mainly in Scotland who I have purchased the bones from. I love ethical taxidermy like this because I strongly believe that if there was beauty in life then beauty can carry on in death, it is all part of the natural cycle of life. However, I understand others have differing ethics and all Spell Jar necklaces and botanical pieces are 100% Vegan, I do not use animal based ingredients in my practice.
