Started this business in '05 and it's been SUCH a joy!
I was in radio for over 20 years. I LOVED every aspect of it. Once I hit age 40 I HATED the getting up at 3:30am to be on the air by 5am aspect of it.
Discovering online selling was a GODSEND. I retired several years ago and Rick and I now sell online fulltime.
When we WERE both working outside the home full time, our FAVORITE pasttime was what WE called "Junkin'". We used to hop in the truck and head up into Arkansas....or down to South Texas.....or over to Oklahoma.....wherever we felt like.....and hit every antique store or flea market we found along the way.
We both LOVE old items and our collections and interests grew through the years. So when we began selling online, it was just a natural thing for us to start with what we "Knew". And we KNOW antique and vintage.
We're VERY lucky in that we live within travelling distance to Canton, Texas (LITERALLY the WORLD's LARGEST flea market). We used to go there for first Monday trade days every month to find items for our own collections. NOW we go there once a month to find items for YOUR collections!
Rick creates the other 99% of the items we sell. He's created iron (and wood) pieces his entire life. He owned his own (architectural iron) business for over 20 years serving North Texas and Southern Oklahoma.
He's one of those guys who can SEE something and then MAKE it. His expertise is mostly in iron, but he's also become pretty darned good with wood when he puts his mind to it..
The ONLY thing that holds him back is the shipping aspect of it. We have to limit ourselves to things that CAN be shipped. He used to do the big ornamental iron gates and entryways.....doors.......stairways........HUGE corbels and braces....etc. But selling online we have to think in a little smaller "scale". So keeping THAT in mind...we're ALWAYS open to new ideas. And always looking to expand. So if we DON'T have something, shoot us your idea. We can tell you instantly if it's something we can do or not.
We take great pride in everything we sell. We LOVE our buyers.....many have become LONG TIME friends and repeat customers.
It's not all about making money. It's about making friends and wonderful repeat customers. And yeah....working in sweats from home is fun too!
