"Local Man Can't Stop Making Things with Geometry"
Naked Geometry was founded out of a love for geometry in it’s pure state. I had been painting and drawing for years, and realized that a study of geometry was in order to improve my work. I became so enamored reading about sacred geometry, fractal mathematics, plane-tiling & knotworks that I began to focus on the geometry for it’s own sake... and found I couldn't stop.
10 years later it’s a family business that’s quickly growing a team of people. We’ve taken our love for geometry from the theoretical and artistic realms into the physical world with laser-cutting, CNC & traditional woodcraft. We create jewelry, artworks and housewares at several shared maker-spaces in Pittsburgh. We salvage wood from everywhere we go, and use almost entirely deadfall, reclaimed lumber & scrap from other woodworkers. We work with many other artists, inventors, web-workers, designers and other makers, and can now create a surprisingly wide range of objects. Lighting, dishware, clothing, large wall art, furniture & metalwork are all in the works!
We will always remain dedicated to our core of geometric excellence, and never stop studying and deepening our craft. Thanks for supporting our love of making things!
Owner, Creator, Designer
James Gyre created Naked Geometry as an outlet for his obsession with geometry and woodworking. His work has spread to several countries, the Museum of Math in NYC and to President Obama. He spends his free time in the woods hunting fallen trees.
Chief, Curator, Customer Service
David Villaverde is the brains of the unit. He works side by side with James three days a week, helps with fulfillment, curation for social media, and generally making things run smoothly. He also makes an excellent pot of soup.
Fabrication, Shop Whiz
Olivia is a talented designer in her own right, and runs an Etsy page under her name. She also works with James in the shop, and helps cut, sand and assemble some of the pieces.
