Stay humble.
I'm scaly trash and I love Bad Dragon toys, passionately, and that was the spark.
What got me into toy making was the desire to make something utterly ridiculous; a life-size model of my dragon-'sona, Namraphim. after a few prototypes, a few failures, a lot of wasted money (that I probably should have spent on a car at the time), and god knows how many hours, I crafted this "as it appears in the artwork" scale dragon toy, it was 21inches long and weighed over 7Kg and despite my 3 years studying sculpture and ceramics... man was it a piece of sh*t. I probably should have stopped there.
I didn't.
Despite how rubbish some of my early sculptures were when I posted pictures of my early works up on gallery sites, (fur affinity most notably) people occasionally would ask for copies of my work or custom sculptures of their own interpretation of various fantasy creatures, to be cast in silicone for their own unique fantasy.
Over the years my skills were tempered and honed through trial and error as a labour of love and a way to spend my time creating. Whilst I have gotten... "better" at sculpting, let's be honest here, with everyone galavanting about with their fancy 3d modelling technology, leaves me as redundant as a flintknapper in a steelworks. you could pick a toy with a much better finish from just about anywhere, but what I do is reminiscent of the very early days of the fantasy toy "industry" if you could call it that at the time. started by hand, and finished by hand, few other works will have had the time effort and love committed to them that these humble works cloned from a clay sculpture do.
