Why I started making kefir...
Between 1999 and 2005, I had serious health problems. They got progressively worse, but the worst was in 2003, and they were bad enough that I would have died if I kept following the doctors advice. I was still a kid then too.
The drugs they wanted me on, and the others I went on, literally had "side effects" like permanent organ damage, and even worse. Bad enough that I'd probably get blocked from saying it here. Long story short: I realized they're not there to help me, because a customer cured is a customer lost.
So I took my health into my own hands, against everyone's advice.
But that decision was easy: I had nothing left to lose. 4 years of the doctors stuff made me only get worse. Then i learned about some very aggressive natural health stuff, and I healed about 90+ % of my health problems within 1 month. I won't go into details, but I think you get the idea.
During that month, one of the things I did was take probiotics, and I continued taking them until 2005. I didn't want to go back to my old state of health, so who wouldn't?
That's around the time I learned about kefir. I didn't want to be dependent on bottles of pills to keep me well, no matter how natural they were. So to free myself from "the man", I bought some kefir grains, and went at it. They've been one of my main sources of probiotics ever since.
Because of all that experience, I go way above and beyond what the average person is willing to do concerning their health. For example, I eat: raw meat, raw milk, raw eggs, and raw fish, and have done so daily since about 2005. Granted, to do that safely, you have to know what you're doing or else you'll get sick. You don't want cross contamination, so you can't just chomp down on anything and think you'll be fine.
But those sorts of foods LITERALLY saved me from death. I go over all this a bit more in the "How to make cheese video" I made, but I think you get the idea that "my body is my temple".
I treat you, and my kefir grains with that same level of respect too, because I know what it's like to be ran through the doctor mill. I know the hopelessness they bring, and how insurance companies are even worse... And the last think I want is for you to not get the best you can.
So that's the gist of my story, but around 2010-2011, I've sold thousands of these same kefir grains on various websites since. Mostly eBay. Although, they were unbranded, and sold in a clear plastic bag with minimal instructions. No fancy packaging or videos like I have now.
When I started selling, the same few buyers would repeatedly buy me out on the spot. I later found out they were reselling them on places like Amazon or Etsy with a large markup. If you look at my major competitors and have ever bought from them, then you have probably already bought ones I grew.
I say that because one of the problems with resellers is that they get sources from many people, some who often abuse their grains, or cross contaminate them with milk that isn't good for you, possibly with rGBH hormones, and so on... But since I'm an absolute health freak: you can be sure I only use the best raw milk to grow my grains, because that literally helped save my life.
So I pay attention to detail, and have quality controls.
